The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced its 2021-22 postseason awards and three University of Notre Dame men’s basketball student-athletes have earned accolades from the league. Freshman Blake Wesley was selected to the All-ACC Second Team and the All-Rookie Team, senior Dane Goodwin earned a spot on the All-ACC Third Team and graduate student Paul Atkinson Jr. was an honorable mention All-ACC selection.
Wesley led the Irish in scoring in all games (14.8) and conference contest (15.7) while becoming the only true freshman in the nation to score over 450 points with 100 rebounds, 75 assists, 50 three-point field goals and 39 steals. The South Bend, Indiana, native posted eight 20-point games this season while being named ACC Rookie of the Week three times and the CBSSports/United States Basketball Writers Association National Freshman of the Week on January 10, 2022.
Wesley becomes the first Notre Dame player to earn All-Rookie honors in the ACC and the first from any conference since Jerian Grant make the BIG EAST All-Rookie team in 2011-12.
Goodwin earns All-ACC honors for the first time in his career after establishing himself as one of the best shooters in the league this season. He was named ACC Player of the Week on December 27, 2021 and averaged 14.2 points per game while shooting .500 from the field, .449 from three-point range and .855 from the free throw line.
The third Irish player to earn attention by a vote of the league’s coaches and media members was West Palm Beach, Florida, native Paul Atkinson Jr. The graduate transfer who played his first three years at Yale and was the 2020 Ivy League Player of the Year, was named to the All-ACC honorable mention team. The ACC Player of the Week on February 7, 2022, Atkinson Jr. averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds in ACC play this season and is second among all active players in career field goal percentage.
