Cam Morrison Returning For Senior Season

Morrison scored the game-winning goal in the last two Big Ten Tournament Championship games

NOTRE DAME, Ind — Fighting Irish hockey forward Cam Morrison has announced he will return to the University of Notre Dame for his senior season in 2019-20.

“At this time I’m excited to announce that I’ll be returning for my senior season and to enjoy one more year with my best friends,” Morrison said. “I’m committed to getting my degree and I’m ready to get back to work with my teammates and coaches. We still have some unfinished business and our team is ready to put in the work to ensure more success moving forward.”

Morrison has helped the Irish to back-to-back Big Ten Tournament championships, scoring the game-winning goal in the last two championship games. He notched the overtime winner versus Ohio State to secure the 2018 championship and then scored what proved to be the game winner this season when the Irish defeated Penn State 3-2 on March 23.

Morrison has evolved into a big-game player for the Irish and is the active leader with 13 playoff points on eight goals and five assists in 17 career playoff games. He added to his growing list of dramatic goals when he netted the overtime game-winning goal in Notre Dame’s 3-2 victory over Clarkson (March 29) to send the Irish to the 2019 NCAA Northeast Regional final.

As a junior in 2018-19, Morrison skated in 32 games and scored 11 goals and added 10 assists for 21 points while missing eight games with injuries. His 11 goals ranked tied for third on the team and his three game winners tied for second.

In three seasons, he has skated in 112 games for the Irish, scoring 31 goals and adding 37 assists for 68 points. Last season in the Frozen Four, he posted the primary assist on Jake Evans’ game-winning goal against Michigan, sending the Notre Dame to the national championship game. He was named to the 2018 and 2019 Big Ten All-Tournament teams and also was named to the 2019 NCAA Northeast Regional All-Tournament Team.

Morrison was selected in the second round, 40th overall, by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

A native of Aurora, Ontario, Morrison is a management consulting major in the Mendoza College of Business.
