NOTRE DAME, Indiana — Irish football student-athletes claimed 13 slots on Phil Steele’s 2020 Preseason Independent First and Second Team. Graduate student OL Liam Eichenberg also claimed overall fourth-team honors on Phil Steele’s Preseason All-American team.
The Irish were included in the Independent honors with student-athletes from Liberty, Connecticut, Army West Point, BYU, Massachusetts and New Mexico State.
Eichenberg makes the national All-American preseason list among student-athletes across all FBS squads. The Cleveland native started all games in 2018 and 2019 at left tackle, helping the Irish rank 13th nationally in scoring offense and 11th in sacks allowed in 2019. He did not concede a sack on the year, allowing just three QB hits and nine hurries, while playing 845 snaps (496 pass plays).
