After a successful ACC championship meet, a pair of Notre Dame swimmers will continue their season at the pinnacle of college swimming. Seniors Coleen Gillilan and Ellie Jew have qualified for the 2023 NCAA Championships. The meet will be held March 15-18 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
Gillilan will swim the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke. The Colorado native is no stranger to the NCAA scene. She qualified for the meet as both a freshman and a sophomore.
The senior has been Notre Dame’s most consistent performer this year. She made multiple B finals in Greensboro a few weeks back. Gillilan earned a 16th place finish in the 200 IM (1:59.39), 11th in the 100 butterfly (52.34) and 14th in the 200 butterfly (1:58.39).
Gillilan’s entry time in the 100 butterfly is 51.73, which ranks 22nd on the psych sheet, and she’s 27th in the 200 at 1:55.54. She is entered in the 100 breaststroke as well (1:00.59).
Jew is a first-time qualifier, and the breaststroker will compete in the 100 and 200. She had a breakout swim in the 100 breaststroke at ACCs a few weeks ago, breaking a minute (59.73) and winning the B final. That time snuck her into the meet in Knoxville at No. 38. She will also participate in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.52).
The senior captain hails from Portland, Ore., and she spent her first year of college at Arizona.
In total, 281 swimmers will head to Knoxville. There will be 41 additional divers, and they will be determined at the Zone Diving Championships held March 6-11. Notre Dame will compete in Bloomington, Ind.
