Guiliano, Lopez-Hernandez Earn ACC Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After top-notch performances at their respective invitational meets this weekend, Chris Guiliano and Carlo Lopez-Hernandez have been named ACC Swimmer of the Week and ACC Co-Diver of the Week, respectively. Each of them has won the award now twice this season.

Guiliano, a U.S. National Team member, continues to prove he is one of the nation’s best. Guiliano won the 50 free (18.84), 100 free (41.30) and 200 free (1:32.14) at the Ohio State Fall Invitational that featured four ranked teams. He broke his own school records in the 50 and 100, and he earned an NCAA A cut in the 100 as well. He was one of just two male swimmers at the meet to earn an individual A cut. Guiliano was already headed to Olympic Trials this summer, but he further solidified his standing by going under the Trials mark in all three events in prelims. His LCM 100 free time of 47.98 was more than 2 seconds under the Olympic Trials cut.

In addition to his individual accolades, Guiliano helped break three school relay records in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay.

At the IUPUI Invitational in Indianapolis, Lopez Hernandez earned three top-three finishes and set a school record with a 376.00 score in the platform event. Lopez-Hernandez took third in the 1-meter (341.55) and third in the 3-meter (377.65). The graduate transfer now easily holds cuts for Zones in all three events and is seeking his fifth appearance at NCAAs.
