Weekly Recap:
The Notre Dame baseball team kicked off its home-season slate against Michigan State, suffering a three-game sweep at the hand of the Spartans. It is the first time since the 2006 season that the Irish have dropped their home opener when the Irish fell 4-2 against Wright State.

Notre Dame jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and led 4-2 after six, but Michigan State plated four in the top of the seventh and one more in the ninth inning to register a 7-4 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium. The Irish loaded the bases three separate times in the game, but failed to get a run scoring hit in all three situations. In fact, Notre Dame stranded 15 in the loss, including 12 in scoring position. In the opener, the Spartans benefitted from five Irish errors and seven unearned runs en route to a 13-0 victory.

In the series finale, Notre Dame loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, trailing 3-0, but Michigan State starter Tony Bucciferro got a fly out and strikeout to end the Irish threat and lock down a complete game, three-hit shutout of the Irish.

Notre Dame returns to the diamond at 5:05 p.m. EDT on Tuesday and Wednesday as it plays host to Ball State and Illinois-Chicago at Frank Eck Stadium. The Irish will then open up conference play this weekend when they head to Tampa, Fla. for a three-game series against USF from Friday-Sunday. Each of the opening two contests is slated for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch with the series finale getting underway at 1:00 p.m. Last season, Notre Dame took two-of-three from the Bulls, winning, 8-5, and, 7-6, before dropping the final game, 6-5.
