Irish Duo Suffer Tough Loss At NCAA Championships

Ciamarra and McCormick's run in doubles comes to an end in the round of 32.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The men’s tennis season came to an end Tuesday afternoon as No. 27 doubles team Richard Ciamarra and Tristan McCormick fall to San Diego’s Gamerov and Holmgren, 6-2, 6-2.

The Irish pair held their own early, trailing 3-2 in both sets before the No. 50 duo from California proved too much for Notre Dame, ending their run at the NCAA Doubles Championships.

The duo, who ranked as high as ninth as a pair in 2018-19 registered 12 wins, including three over top-50 teams. Ciamarra and Tristan also punched their ticket to the 2018 ITA Fall Nationals as the Midwest Regional doubles champions.

Both individuals missed a portion of the spring season due to injury but returned to the courts at the end of the season, helping their team to a 17-15 finish and their second straight appearance in the NCAA Team Championship Tournament.
