Irish Finish 3-1 in Tri-Meet Against Navy, Princeton

FINAL RESULTS

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame welcomed East Coasters Navy and Princeton to the Rolfs Aquatics Center on Sunday amidst a near-foot of snow and plummeting temperatures. But the Irish were hot in the pool, taking three of four meets and putting up several personal best times.

The 12th-ranked Irish men started and ended the meet with a pair of wins in the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay, and the group won both medley relays as well. Notre Dame notched six individual event wins on the weekend. 

Chris Guiliano continues his dominant run in the sprint freestyle events. He won both the 50 (19.55) and 100 free (41.84), and he took second in the 200 free (1:33.62). Abdelrahman Elaraby was right behind him, finishing second in the 50 free (19.92) and third in the 100 free (43.44).

Notre Dame has established itself as a backstroke powerhouse this year, and the Irish showed that again on Friday and Saturday. Tommy Janton, Marcus Gentry and Tanner Filion went 1-2-3 in the 100 back with times of 46.10, 46.26 and 47.27, respectively. Janton also won the 200 back (1:41.85). Filion finished third (1:43.28), and Gentry was fourth (1:43.33).

Dillion Edge won the 200 fly with a time of 1:45.67, which is less than a second off his season-best time of 1:44.87. 

In the diving well, Daniel Knapp — who missed multiple meets this year with an injury — won the 3-meter with a score of 369.70. He was Notre Dame’s highest finisher in the 1-meter as well (348.80).

Notre Dame notched a win over Navy but narrowly fell to the Tigers. The Irish opened the meet with a win in the 200 free relay (Jess Geriane, Madelyn Christman, Grace Brenneman and Lente Geelen). 

Christman also won both the 100 and 200 back (1:54.07). She earned an NCAA B cut in the 200, a swim that was also her fastest 200 back of her career. 

Geriane went a personal-best 52.94 in the 100 back, good enough to finish second in the event. Annie Behm was the second place finisher in the 200 back with a season-best of 1:57.71. 

Maggie Graves won the 1000 free by more than 7 seconds, notching a personal best time of 9:45.27. She already notched a best time in the 500 free this year, going 4:47.47 at the Ohio State Invitational. 

Graduate freestyler Megan Glass had a nice meet, taking second in both the 100 (49.98) and 200 free (1:47.15). Her 200 free performance was her fastest of the year. While she finished fourth, Peyton D’Emanuele’s 1:49.70 in the 200 free was a personal best time. 

Ellie Jew finished a competitive 200 breast heat with a win, going 2:13.59. Rhianna Hensler posted a best time in the 200 fly (2:01.25) and finished fourth. 

Finally, Calie Brady won the 1-meter springboard event for Notre Dame with a score of 295.30, her best performance of the year. She took second in the 3-meter (302.05), while Grace Courtney was third (295.70).
