Irish Open 2024 by Hosting Princeton, Navy for Tri-Meet

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Notre Dame swimming and diving programs will officially flip the competition calendar to 2024 on Friday and Saturday, as the Irish host Princeton and Navy for a tri-meet at the Rolfs Aquatics Center. The teams faced off last year in Annapolis.

Men’s Preview —

The Irish men’s team is 5-0 in dual meets this season and ranked No. 12 in the country according to the CSCAA Top 25. They are led by junior freestyler Chris Guiliano, who ranks fourth nationally in the 50 free, third in the 100 free, and fifth in the 200 free so far this year. He has notched 11 wins in individual events over six meets.

Navy has a 7-1 record this season and most recently defeated Towson on Jan. 6. Diver George Moore swept the diving events, and distance specialist Luca Oliva won both distance free races.

Like Notre Dame, Princeton enters this weekend’s meet with a 5-0 dual meet record. All five of those wins were over Ivy League competition. While the Tigers are not ranked in the latest CSCAA poll, they did receive votes.

Women’s Preview —

The women’s team enters the meet with a 2-3 dual meet record. Backstrokers Madelyn Christman and Jess Geriane have competed very well this season for the Irish, as has 2023 NCAA qualifier and graduate student Ellie Jew. She has won the 200 breast twice this year and notched a win in the 100 breast as well against Pittsburgh and Penn State.

The Irish women have twice beaten Navy, most recently earning a victory last season in Annapolis. The Mids enter this weekend’s meet with a 5-1 record with wins over American, Bucknell, Lafayette, George Washington and Army.

Princeton — who won last year’s Ivy League Championship — is currently ranked No. 24 in the nation and 5-0 in dual meets on the year. The Tigers also won the Big Al Invitational in early December. Freshman Eleanor Sun has already emerged as one of the nation’s best swimmers with a 200 IM time of 1:56.26 and a 400 IM time of 4:06.07. The former is a school record.
