Jon Gallagher To Play In MLS All-Star Game On Wednesday

Jon Gallagher will be playing in his first career Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Star game on Wednesday night on July 18 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The Austin FC defender is 1 of 26 players selected to the league’s 2023 All-Star roster.

Gallagher is the third-ever Notre Dame alum to be named an MLS All-Star, joining Matt Besler (2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and Justin Morrow (2012). He will compete against English Premier League side Arsenal FC at 8 p.m. ET on Apple TV.

On the season, Gallagher has scored five goals and added four assists in his 20 starts and 23 appearances for Austin FC.

Gallagher has 13 goals and 8 assists in 98 total MLS appearances for Austin, including scoring the first-ever MLS goal at Q2 Stadium in the Verde & Black’s 4-1 win over Portland Timbers on July 1, 2021.

Gallagher finished his Notre Dame career ranked sixth in goals (39) and ninth in points (93) in program history over 84 games played (63 starts). He scored 36 goals over his final three seasons, the most in that stretch by any Irish player since 2006 Hermann Trophy winner Lapira tallied 38 goals from 2005-07.

Gallagher was one 1 of 12 players on the All-Star roster selected by a combination of fan, media, and MLS player voting. Another 12 were chosen by All-Star Head Coach Wayne Rooney of host club D.C. United, and a further two (2) were chosen by MLS Commissioner Don Garber.
