Luke Zeller To Tour Australia With Athletes In Action

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame junior center/forward Luke Zeller (Washington, Ind.) will play with an Athletes in Action squad that will tour Australia in August. The team will tour Australia from August 3-22, with stops in Sydney, Tasmania, and Perth for games with Australian teams.

Zeller was named to the AIA squad that will be comprised of nine other current college basketball players that will be coached by AIA staff member Eric Nelson. Joining Zeller on the squad will be Matt Hall (Texas-Pan Am), Jay R. Strowbridge (Nebraska), Jason Holsinger (Evansville), Josh Carter (Texas A&M), Wes Johnson (Iowa State), Jay Watkins (San Francisco), Jimmy Graham (Miami, Fla.), Ray Shafer (Oregon), and Michael Niemi (Southern Methodist).

This will be second summer that Zeller has competed with the AIA program. In 2006, he was part of a 10-member squad that won the gold medal at the William Jones Cup in Taiwain. The U.S. team finished 8-1 and secured a victory in the championship over Chinese Taipei. Zeller recorded nine points and 12 rebounds in the gold medal contest.

As a sophomore at Notre Dame, the former McDonalds High School All-American and Indiana Mr. Basketball appeared in all 32 games and averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest.
