Notre Dame Hosts Purdue for Home Opener

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — On Friday, Notre Dame swimming and diving will host the first of four home meets this season by welcoming Purdue to town. The Irish men are 1-0 after a win over Wisconsin last Friday, while the women fell to the Badgers and are 0-1 on the year. It will be the first meet of the season for the Boilermakers on both the men’s and women’s side, and these two teams last saw each other in 2021.

Chris Guiliano is coming off of a multi-win performance at Wisconsin last weekend, taking the title in the 200 freestyle and a pair of relays. Sophomore Tommy Janton also won both the 100 and 200 backstroke, and he will look to win another pair of titles to start of his second season.

On the women’s side, Madelyn Christman secured a 200 backstroke win at Wisconsin and will look to build on that victory and a successful sophomore season last year. Younger sister and sprinter Meghan Christman hopes to add to an Irish relay presence alongside upperclassmen Jess Geriane, Peyton D’Emanuele and others.

Divers Calie Brady and Carlo Lopez Hernandez are reigning ACC Co-Divers of the week after winning two golds and two silvers, respectively, last year. Sophomores Grace Courtney and Daniel Knapp aren’t far behind and could be a threat to the Boilermakers on the springboard Friday.

The Purdue men have a new head coach in Alex Jerden, who took over the program in April following the retirement of Dan Ross. Jerden served as a Boilermakers assistant for the last four years.

Friday’s meet at the Rolfs Aquatics Center begins at 4 p.m. Admission is free, and results will be available on the Meet Mobile app.
