Irish's Regular Season Concludes with Loss at Louisville

SOUTH BEND, Ind. –  The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team wrapped up regular season play last night at #32 Louisville under the lights. Once again without freshman Sebastian Dominko in singles and graduate student Addy Vashistha out, the short-handed Fighting Irish could not get it done against the rival Cardinals, falling 4-0.

Dominko would participate in the doubles, teaming up with Senior captain Matt Halpin for the first time this year. They would win their match at the #2 spot but a quick win at #1 and a late break and hold at #3 would secure the early lead for the Cardinals.

Louisville would ride the momentum and play of their top three singles players, all of whom are nationally ranked, to straight-set wins and the victory. Play would be abandoned so the matches in the bottom half of the lineup would remain unfinished with the Irish having won the first set in every one. Yu Zhang captured the first set 6-3 at #4, Jamie Corsillo would win a marathon first set 7-6(7) and Noah Becker would find himself in just staring a third set after winning the first 6-3 but dropping the second 6-4 at #6 singles

With the regular season over, the Notre Dame men’s tennis team will turn their sights to postseason play beginning with the ACC Championships next week. The Irish will travel to Cary, N.C. where both men’s and women’s conference tournaments will take place at the Cary Tennis Park. The draws will come out after the final matches of regular season play this weekend but the Irish will play their first match of the event on Thursday, April 20th next week with the opponent TBD.
