AS A SOPHOMORE: Rewrote the Irish record book en route to earning the first men[apos]s swimming All-America honors in Notre Dame history … placed fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:34.00) at the pinnacle of collegiate competition, becoming the first Irish swimmer or diver to crack the top eight at the NCAA Championships … competed in the 500 free, lowering his school record from earlier in the season to 4:17.97 … also participated in the 100 free (44.04) at the same meet … set four school records at the BIG EAST Championships, highlighted by a first-place finish, BIG EAST and Trees Pool record in the 500 free (4:18.50) … led off the 800 free relay in a school record time of 1:33.71 while helping the Irish to a second-place finish … took second overall in the individual event of the 200 free (1:34.00) … earned bronze in the 100 free, setting the new school mark down to 43.22 … posted a school record while leading off the second place 200 free relay, becoming the first Irish swimmer to crack the 20-second barrier in the 50 free with a time of 19.84 … contributed to second place finishes on the 400 free relay and the 400 medley relay for the Irish at the BIG EAST Championships … turned in a stellar performance at the Hawkeye Invitational in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:35.58 to break the meet record and set the new pool record … garnered bronze in the 500 free (4:22.28) at the same meet … took second place against Michigan State by swimming a season-best 49.32 in the 100 fly … placed first in both the 100 free (44.47) and 200 free (1:37.50) while taking second in the 500 free (4:26.05) at the Shamrock Invitational … rose to the occasion against league foe Louisville, snagging gold in the 50 free (20.27) and 500 free (4:27.86) and earned second place points in the 200 free (1:37.91) … represented the Irish at the 2012 US Olympic Trials, highlighted by a 13th-place finish in the 400 meter free (3:52.74), a swim that ranked him in the top-100 performers in the event in the world at the time … also competed in the 50 meter free (23.28, 65th), 100 meter free (50.67, 45th), and 200 meter free (1:50.53, 29th) …named the 2011-2012 Notre Dame Monogram Club MVP Award for the team … earned a monogram.

AS A FRESHMAN: Registered the highest finish at the NCAA Championships in Notre Dame history with his 26th place finish in the 200 free (1:36.15) … became the first freshman, and the second swimmer, to make the NCAA Championships in school history … swam in two additional events at NCAA Championships … those two events were the 100 free (44.05) and the 500 free (4:27.25) … won the 500 free in 4:19.08, which was an NCAA B-cut time, at the BIG EAST Championships … that performance was a school record and first-ever 500 free time under 4:20 in school history … also took second place in the 200 free (1:36.19) and third in the 100 free (44.11) while being a member of the silver medal 800 free relay, the fourth place 200 free relay and the fourth place 400 medley relay at the league meet … all four times were NCAA B-cuts … the 400 medley relay squad also broke the Notre Dame school record with their 3:15.10 showing … top 1,000 free performance showing (9:22.35) came against Michigan State … his performances in the 100 and 200 free at the NCAAs and his 50 free lead-off leg of 20.35 at the BIG EAST Championships earned him second place on the top performers list in school history all three events … had the top team time in the 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 free for the first time since in the Irish joined the BIG EAST Conference … qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 100, 200 and 400 meter free events … registered 14 NCAA B-cut swims in his freshman campaign.
