RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 15 Notre Dame men’s tennis team suffered back-to-back defeats on the road against top-20 nationally ranked opposition. The Fighting Irish (14-4, 4-2) first fell 4-0 to No. 4 Wake Forest on Friday, then dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to No. 20 NC State on Sunday. Against the Wolfpack, the Irish rallied after losing the doubles point to claim a 3-2 lead; then had a chance on the final court to win it, with it going to a third set, but just couldn’t pull it out for the comeback.
Facing a 2-0 hole at NC State, Kyran Magimay got the momentum rolling for Notre Dame with a 6-4, 6-4, victory over Charlie Camus. Magimay remains undefeated this spring, improving to 9-0 in dual singles matches. He has now won a team-best 14 matches dating back to the fall.
Next, No. 15 Sebastian Dominko picked up another signature win on the season after besting No. 13 Martin Borisiouk, 6-4, 7-5. Dominko is now 10-1 this spring with four nationally ranked victories.
Then, Luis Llorens Saracho jumped on the wave of Irish momentum, rallying after a first set loss to defeat Darius Pop, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
Unfortunately, the Irish came close but just couldn’t close it out for the ranked road victory. Up next, No. 97 William Manning bested No. 73 Perry Gregg, 7-6(5), 6-2. Then, all eyes were on Peter Nad vs. Ainius Sabaliauskas on court four. Nad won the first set 7-5, then lost the second in a tiebreaker, 7-6(4). Sabaliauskas then broke Nad in the third set to go up 5-3 before closing it out at 6-3.
