2020 Pro Lacrosse Drafts Recap

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse standouts Bryan Costabile, Charlie Trense and Patrick Aslanian have each been selected in pro lacrosse drafts over the last two weeks. Costabile is headed to the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) to play for the Atlas while Trense (New York Lizards) and Aslanian (Chesapeake Bayhawks) were each taken in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) draft.

Costabile was selected with the second overall pick by the Atlas in the first round of the PLL draft. The midfielder is the first Notre Dame player to be taken in the PLL draft but will join 12 other Notre Dame alums in the league, as it enters its second year of play.

Costabile was one of the most decorated players in program history, scoring 99 career goals as a midfielder despite the 2020 season being shortened to just five games due to COVID-19. The Sykesville, Maryland, native was a three-time All-American and the 2019 ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Costabile broke the record for goals in a season by a midfielder in 2019, scoring 42 times as a junior.

In the 2020 MLL draft Trense was selected with the seventh overall pick in the second round by the New York Lizards and Aslanian was taken with the 26th overall pick in the fifth round by the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Trense was a starting defenseman for the Irish during the shortened 2020 campaign. He played an integral role in Notre Dame’s impressive defensive performances in wins over Cleveland State and Richmond before being sidelined with an injury.

Aslanian transferred to Notre Dame as a graduate student for the 2020 season and secured one of the primary short-stick defensive midfielder roles for the team. The SSDM caused four turnovers and scooped up nine ground balls over five games with the Irish.
