Cal Box | Marist Box

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – After suffering their first weekend slate of league losses, the No. 22 Notre Dame men’s tennis team bounced back in a major way, defeating both No. 23 Stanford and No. 65 California. It marked the program’s first-ever wins against both as the Fighting Irish improved to 6-2 in ACC play.

On Sunday, the Blue & Gold swept Cal 4-0, then ended the day with a 7-0 sweep over Marist to improve to 17-4 overall. Notre Dame has now produced 13 total shutouts this spring.

Graduate Perry Gregg shone bright with a 5-0 overall record in the California teams sweep (3-0 in singles & 2-0 in doubles). Furthermore, Gregg clinched the doubles point against both Stanford and Cal, and his singles wins clinched all three dual matches.

Against Cal, No. 13 Sebastian Dominko defeated Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, on court one to win his team-best sixth straight. After the weekend, Dominko, Gregg and Luis Llorens Saracho all now boast double-digit singles dual victories.

Speaking of Llorens Saracho, he and Peter Nad went 3-0 in doubles over the weekend, which included an impressive win over the No. 6 pair in the country, Stanford’s Chang/Razeghi. Llorens Saracho & Nad also defeated Cal’s Aney/Silva + Marist’s Suhanitski/Bevan. Llorens Saracho & Nad are currently ranked 53rd in the nation and boast an 8-3 dual record with 4 ranked wins.

The Irish are now in sole fourth place with five ACC challenges remaining. Up next, two road battles: at SMU on March 27 and at Boston College on March 29.
