WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 25 University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team fell to No. 1 Wake Forest on Sunday, fall 7-0 to the Demon Deacons at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
How It Happened
Wake Forest (16-2, 5-1 ACC) earned the early advantage in doubles, claiming wins on Courts 1 and 2 to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
The Demon Deacons won the next two matches in quick succession. First, 30th-ranked Skander Mansouri defeated Irish freshman Richard Ciamarra 6-4, 6-2 on Court 3. Then 7th-ranked Petros Chrysocos upended sophomore Guillermo Cabrera 6-3, 6-2.
The remaining four singles matches went to third sets, but Wake Forest got the final point it needed on Court 4 when the next decision went final. Bar Botzer defeated sophomore Matt Gamble 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 to clinch the match at 4-0.
Irish junior Alex Lebedev fell to Borno Gojo after forcing a third set, ultimately dropping the match 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Freshman Tristan McCormick then dropped to Alan Gadjiev 6-1, 6-7(6), 6-1 after forcing a decisive set. Wake Forest completed the sweep when Eduardo Nava defeated junior Grayson Broadus 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-2.

The Irish (12-11, 3-4 ACC) return home next weekend to take on Duke at 3:30 p.m. ET Friday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
