RALEIGH – The No. 42 Notre Dame women’s tennis squad split the road weekend in the state of North Carolina. The Fighting Irish (15-8, 5-7) first defeated No. 68 Wake Forest on Friday, 4-2, then fell to 4-0 to No. 10 NC State on Sunday. The loss to the top-10-ranked Wolfpack ended Notre Dame’s three-match win streak. The Blue & Gold are currently in 10th place in the ACC Standings.

Against Wake, Notre Dame got off to a 1-0 start after winning the doubles point. Akari Matsuno and Mari-Louise Van Zyl got it going with a 6-3 victory on court three. After the weekend slate, they are now 6-2 overall this spring.

Next, Gabriella Rawles and Rylie Hanford clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court two. On Sunday, this Irish duo was deadlocked at 4-4 when their match went unfinished against a ranked NC State duo – No. 73 Conway/Zyryanova. Rawles and Hanford are now 12-5 together this spring.

In singles at Wake Forest, it was Matsuno, Bianca Molnar and Sophia Holod who brought home the victory, in that order. Matsuno bested Krystal Blanch, 6-1, 6-0, to reach double-digit wins on the season, now 10-4.

No. 62 Molnar defeated Nevena Carton, 7-5, 6-2, and is now 11-5 in duals. Molnar was looking for a ranked win on Sunday on court one but her match against No. 36 Mia Slama went unfinished, 0-6, 6-3.

Lastly, Holod clinched on court four, knocking off Heidi Bulger, 7-6(4), 6-4. Holod has put together an impressive freshman campaign, owning a team-best 13 dual singles wins.

Up next – the Irish have one regular-season match remaining – senior day vs. DePaul on April 12 at Noon ET.
