COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 5 Fighting Irish lost its first game of the season at No. 7 Maryland, falling by a final score of 14-9 at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.
Notre Dame’s nine goals came from eight different players, as senior Bryan Costabile led the way with two goals and an assist.
Freshman Liam Entenmann stood tall in goal, making a career-high 16 saves between the pipes.
How It Happened
The first half was a see-saw affair, as Maryland scored the first two goals before the Irish answered back with two of their own. The Terrapins scored the final goal of the quarter to take a 3-2 lead after the first 15 minutes.
Notre Dame scored the first two goals of the second quarter to go on top 4-3 before Maryland ended the half by scoring four of the last five to take a 7-5 lead into the break.
The Irish wasted no time in leveling the game in the third quarter, scoring two goals in the opening five minutes to even the game at 7-7. However, Maryland responded with three straight scores to take a 10-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
Costabile scored the first goal of the fourth to cut it to 10-8 before Maryland netted four of the final five to win by a final score of 14-9.

Entenmann kept the Irish in the game early, making nine saves in the first half before finishing with 16 for the game.
