SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The eighth-ranked Notre Dame baseball team (31-11, 15-9) couldn’t get the bats going and dropped the series finale to Pitt (27-22, 13-13), 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium. The Irish cut into the lead in the seventh with two runs but were unable to mount a comeback.
How It Happened
The Panthers struck first in the series finale, as they got a run across in the third inning. After three innings, Pitt held a 1-0 lead.
Jack Findlay had another strong outing in his second start of the week for the Irish. He tossed a career-high 4.1 innings pitched and allowed just one run and did not walk a batter.
Pitt broke the game open in the seventh, scoring four runs in the inning. Tatem Levins hit a three-run home run for the Panthers, the first home run by the Panthers in the series.
The Irish tried to get back into the game in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and a runner on, Jack Penney launched a two-run shot over the wall in right. The home run was his second of the year and decreased the deficit to 5-2.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Irish got the winning run to the plate but were unable to tie the game up.

The Irish will hit the road for their final road trip of the regular season on Tuesday. The Irish have their final midweek matchup in Evanston, Illinois as they are set to take on Northwestern. The Irish and Wildcats are set for a 4 p.m. ET first pitch for Tuesday’s matchup.
