A Perfect 10 First-Place Finishes

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams picked up 10 first-place finishes at the two-day Mike Poehlein Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. The Irish notched nine additional top finishes Saturday after Greg Davis (Peachtree, Ga./Starr’s Mill) won the hammer throw Friday.

Women’s Results

Hammer Throw: Mason Bashaw finished in ninth place (44.48m), followed by Madeline Casanova in 10th place (44.45m) and Vivien Devaney in13th place (42.93m).

Shot Put: Casanova finished in 11th place (12.16m), followed by Emily Kujawski in 12th place (12.11m).

Pole Vault: Jessica Sullivan cleared 3.60m to finish in second place.

Long Jump: Maddie Buttinger captured second place with a jump of 5.50m, followed by Jasmine Williams in third place (5.48m) and Lauren Leniart in eighth place (5.21m).

Javelin Throw: Maddie Buttinger finished in seventh place with a throw of 33.71m.

Discus Throw: Casanova finished in fourth place with a 46.03m throw and Kujawski claimed 16th place (38.23m).

Triple Jump: Kelly Burke jumped 11.21m to finish fourth, followed by Williams in fifth place (11.05m) and Leniart in seventh place (10.78m).

5,000-meter run: Theresa Cattuna captured first place in 17:51.70, followed by Susanna Sullivan in second place in 17:53.36 and Michelle Mowry in 18:31.44.

1,500-meter run: Molly Hirt claimed ninth place in 4:43.21, while Abby Higgins was 15th in 4:48.77 and Allison Schroeder finished in 17th in 4:51.84. Grace Brier (4:57.65), Gena Bleyer (5:01.25) and Lily Rodgers (5:13.98) finished in 24th place, 27th place and 31st place, respectively.

100-meter hurdles: Nevada Sorenson claimed first place in 14.36, followed by Kali Watkins in fourth place in 14.97, Buttinger in sixth place in 15.46 and Sasha Blanchard in 10th place in 15.65.

400-meter dash: Michelle Brown claimed first place in 55.51, followed by Natalie Geiger in ninth place in 58.99 and Kelly Langhans in 17th place in 1:01.28.

100-meter dash: Sorenson finished in 11th place in 12.87 and Watkins was the 15th-place finisher in 13.05.

800-meter run: Angela Ryck finished in seventh place in 2:18.69.

400-meter hurdles: Blanchard claimed eighth place in 1:05.54 and Ann Marie Kelly claimed ninth place in 1:07.48.

200-meter dash: Brown claimed first place in 25.21.

3,000-meter steeplechase: Ryan Russ finished in ninth place 12:16.68.

1,600-meter relay: Notre Dame “A” (Brown, Geiger, Blanchard, Kelly) finished in second place in 3:57.32, followed by Notre Dame “B” (Higgins, Langhans, Schroeder, Ryck) in fourth place in 4:03.38.

Men’s Results

Hammer Throw: Greg Davis was the second-place finisher (56.30m), while Andrew Hills finished fourth (54.25m) and Mitchell Gormley finished in fifth place (52.44m). John Belcher claimed ninth place (50.59m) and Anthony Thomas was 13th (45.61m).

Shot Put: Andrew Brock finished fifth (15.38m), while Belcher was the sixth-place finisher (15.29m) and Hills finished seventh (15.20m). Thomas finished in 11th place (13.69m).

Pole Vault: Andrew Kolbeck cleared 4.80m to finish in sixth place, followed by Dean Odegard in seventh place (4.35m).

High Jump: Doug Onuscheck claimed first place and cleared 1.95m.

Javelin Throw: Peter Kristiansen claimed third place (52.65m).

Discus Throw: Thomas finished in third place with a 47.66m throw, while David Anderson had a mark of 43.96m to finish eighth and Belcher claimed 10th (41.42m).

Triple Jump: Logan Renwick claimed first place and jumped 15.09m and Will Sievern claimed ninth place (12.28m).

5,000-meter run: Mat Abernethy was the second-place finisher in 15:00.08, followed by Spencer Carter in fourth place in 15:02.54, Paul Springer in sixth place in 15:19.41 and Jeff MacMillan in eighth place in 15:25.31.

400-meter relay: Notre Dame (Jarrod Buchanon, Miklos Szebeny, Patrick Feeney, Edward Hitchler) was the second-place finisher in 41.79.

1,500-meter run: D.J. Thornton finished in 16th place in 4:05.89.

110-meter hurdles: Buchanon placed fifth in 15.18 and Odegard finished 16th in 17.80.

400-meter dash: Hitchler claimed first place in 48.57, while Brendan Dougherty finished second in 49.24 and Eric Roth and Connor Palodino finished in sixth place (50.38) and 17th place (52.93), in that order.

100-meter dash: Szebeny picked up a first-place finish in 10.75 and Feeney finished in third place in 10.96.

800-meter run: Mitch Lorenz finished in fourth place in 1:54.69, followed by Randall Babb in fifth place in 1:54.80 and Jack Favorite in eighth place in 1:56.15.

400-meter hurdles: Buchanon finished in third place in 54.30 and Matthew Brown finished in fourth place in 54.42.

200-meter dash: HItchler was the third-place finisher 22.19, followed by Feeney in fourth place in 22.31 and Dougherty and Eric Roth in ninth place (22.80) and 21st place (23.48).

3,000-meter steeplechase: Ryan Gamboa finished in first place in 9:27.50, followed by Thomas Noel in third place 9:53.12 and Kyle Higdon in seventh place in 10:25.48.

1,600-meter relay: Notre Dame (Hitchler, Dougherty, Brown, Feeney) finished in first place in 3:16.53.
