Anders Lee Named The Warrior CCHA Player Of The Month

Dec. 4, 2012

Notre Dame, Ind. – University of Notre Dame junior center Anders Lee (Edina, Minn.) has been named the Warrior CCHA Player of the Month for the month of November. The Central Collegiate Hockey Association made the announcement earlier today.

The 6-3, 220-pound center had a league-best seven goals and added two assists for nine points during November. Included in his seven goals were a power-play tally, one short-handed goal and a game winner. His goal-scoring exploits helped the Irish to a 5-3-0 mark during the month. His nine points was second among CCHA players during the month.

Lee scored at least one point in five of the team’s eight games in November and had three multi-point games. He was twice named CCHA Postgame Offensive Player of the Week, taking the honor on Nov. 5 and Nov. 26 after strong weekends versus Western Michigan and North Dakota. In eight games, the former Green Bay Gambler, peppered goaltenders with 34 shots on goal and was +5 overall.

A sixth-round draft choice of the New York Islanders in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Lee opened the month with a goal and an assist in a 3-2 loss to Western Michigan on Nov. 2. He followed that game with a pair of goals, including a short-handed marker, in the 4-0 shutout of the Broncos on Nov. 4 on the way to player of the week honors.

He was then held off the scoresheet for three games versus Boston College and Michigan before closing the month on a roll, notching four goals and an assist over the final three games. Lee scored Notre Dame’s lone goal via the power play in a 2-1 loss at home to North Dakota on Nov. 23.

He was instrumental in the team’s 5-2 win over North Dakota the following night as he scored two goals, including the game winner, and added an assist in the victory. The big center iceman then opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the month in the first period of a 3-2 win over Lake Superior on Nov. 30.

For the season, Notre Dame’s team captain leads the Irish in scoring with 10 goals and five assists for 15 points. His 10 goals tie him with Michigan’s AJ Treais for the league lead and his 15 points tie him for third in the CCHA scoring race. Nationally, the 10 goals tie him for third overall.

With 10 goals this season, Lee now has 51 lamplighters in 99 career games. He is one of 32 Notre Dame players all-time to score 50 or more goals in a season. The #4/#5-ranked Irish are 11-4-0 on the year and are 7-1-0-0 in CCHA play, good for a second-place tie, just one point behind first-place Miami with two games in hand.

Lee and his teammates return to action this weekend with a home CCHA series versus Michigan State on Dec. 7-8. Game time both nights is 7:05 p.m. at the Compton Family Ice Arena. Notre Dame then closes out the first half of the season with a 7:05 game on Dec. 15 when the Irish travel to Bowling Green to face the Falcons.
