CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame softball team defeated the Boston University Terriers 8-0 in six innings at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium as part of the Green and Gold Classic Saturday morning. The Irish recorded 10 hits in the contest as Alexis Holloway and Payton Tidd combined to shutout the Terriers. Anna Holloway hit her first career homer in the sixth inning, ending the game early.
Alexis Holloway picked up her second win of the season, throwing 5.0 innings, scattering two hits and striking out five. Tidd threw an inning, allowing a hit.
Emma Clark led the offense with a 3-for-3 effort, a double and scored twice. Leea Hanks added two hits, two RBI and scored twice. Karina Gaskins drove in a pair with a double. Abby Sweet, Sarah Genz, Quinn Biggio and Anna Holloway all had a hit. Holloway’s went the furthest as she hit a three-run homer in the sixth. The first of her career.
After a clean first inning from Alexis Holloway, the Irish offense went to work. With one out, Clark doubled and came in to score when on a Hanks double. Genz brought Hanks in with a knock to shallow right to put the Irish up 2-0.
Notre Dame added three more runs in the third. Sweet and Clark hit back-to-back singles and a double steal put them in scoring position. Hanks singled to bring in Sweet. Gaskins hit a double to score two more and extend the lead to 5-0.
The Irish ended the contest early the sixth. After Rachel Allen pinch hit to lead off the inning and was hit by a pitch, Biggio followed with a single before Holloway left the yard to put the Irish up 8-0.
