Notre Dame, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s soccer team displayed a balanced scoring attack as the Irish received goals from four different players in defeating Michigan 4-1 in an exhibition game at Alumni Field on Monday night.
The Irish, who open up the season in Omaha, Neb., against Southwest Missouri St. in the opening round of the Diadora Challenge, were 2-0 against their two exhibition contests, outscoring their opponents 9-2.
Junior Devon Prescod (Marietta, Ga.) led the Irish with a goal and an assist as Notre Dame scored three second-half goals to break open a close contest.
Senior Rafael Garcia (Palmdale, Calif.) got the Irish on the scored 10:34 into the contest with a header into the right corner of the net off an assist from Kevin Richards (Warwick, Bermuda). Despite outshooting the Wolverines 14-4 in the first half, Notre Dame could manage just one first-half score.
Junior Greg Martin (Plano, Tex.) put in the second Irish score off an assist from Kevin Goldthwaite (Sacramento, Calif.) at the 54:46 mark of the contest, while Prescod pushed the lead to 3-0 less than four minutes later off an assist from Chad Riley (Houston, Tex.).
Junior Justin Detter (White Lake, Mich.) scored Notre Dame’s final goal of the game with 10 minutes remaining in the contest.
The Irish outshot the Wolverines 22-8 in the game.
