Junior Margaret Bamgbose will compete in the 400 meter finals on Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Bamgbose Named ACC Women's Track Performer Of The Week

Feb. 10, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Junior Margaret Bamgbose has been named Women’s Track Performer of the Week by the Atlantic Coast Conference, the league announced Tuesday.

Bamgbose turned in a standout day Saturday at Notre Dame’s Meyo Invitational, running the nation’s seventh-best time in the 400 meters in 52.45. That performance also broke the school and invitational records. Later in the day, she anchored the Irish 4×400-meter relay team, overtaking Purdue’s Aarin Jones in the final straightaway to win the event in 3:37.20, the nation’s 13th-best time and a new Meyo Invitational record.

“Margaret is one of those athletes that we always knew she could run very fast indoors and put up an outstanding time and she’s just continuing to do what she did outdoors last year when she was a first-team All-American in the 400,” head coach Alan Turner said. “I expect a lot more out of her as the season progresses, so she’ll be one of those who battles for the ACC indoor title in the 400 and to be an All-American as well.”

The Irish return to action this weekend at both the Grand Valley Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan, and the SPIRE DI Invitational in Geneva, Ohio. For the latest news on the Irish, follow @NDXCTF on Twitter, and like Notre Dame Cross Country/Track & Field on Facebook.
