PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Junior pitcher Brittney Bargar made Notre Dame softball history on Saturday when she earned her 28th victory of the season to set the program’s single-season win record. Bargar’s seventh shutout on the season, a game-one 1-0 win over Pittsburgh, came after allowing only three hits and striking out six in the BIG EAST Conference win at Trees Field. She left a pair of Panther runners in scoring position in the second and then greased herself out of a bases-loaded jam with one out in the bottom of the seventh to claim the record.

Notre Dame (36-18-1 overall, 13-7 BIG EAST) dropped the end of the twinbill, 4-2.

The first of Christine Lux’s two hits in game one with the Panthers (30-23 overall,11-9 BIG EAST) came in the top of the fourth when she belted a solo home run to right-center. It would be the only score of the game.

Cory Berliner (16-11) gave up seven hits and one earned run in the loss.

Brianna Jorgensborg singled home Beth Northway with a shot up the middle after Northway doubled to start the third inning in game two. That run tied the contest, 1-1, to neutralize Pitt’s first-inning score.

The Panthers posted three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead to earn the win. Notre Dame got its run in the visitor’s half of the sixth on Katie Fleury’s solo homer.

Kayla Zinger (12-11) tossed the first 6.0 frames and gave up two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Kaitlyn Schuster stepped in and picked up the save with a scoreless seventh inning.

Jessica Dignon was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Pitt.

Notre Dame ends its regular season with a doubleheader at Syracuse on Sunday (May 4) set to start at 11 a.m. (ET).
