BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – The third-ranked Notre Dame baseball team stayed alive in the BIG EAST Tournament with a 6-2 victory over Rutgers, sending the Irish onto a Friday-night rematch versus Virginia Tech (7:00 EDT). The winner of that game moves to Saturday’s championship round versus Seton Hall, which shut out VT on Friday (6-0).
Aaron Heilman added another chapter to his dominating career with the complete-game victory. Heilman took a perfect game into the seventh inning, ultimately allowing the two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out 12 RU batters (tying the second-highest total of his career).
Home runs from Brian Stavisky, Alec Porzel and Matt Strickroth staked the Irish to a 5-0 lead after four innings while the Notre Dame defense played error-free ball for the second consecutive game.
