NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton) has been named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Month it was announced by the Conference on Friday afternoon. Huffer, the conference’s 2008-09 Rookie of the Year, recently turned in her best career finish with a fifth-place showing at the Windy City Collegiate.
Through Notre Dame’s three rounds of the 2009 fall season, Huffer carries a team-best 73.50 stroke average. All eight of her rounds have counted towards Notre Dame’s team score. Three of those eight rounds have been at even-par or better and Huffer has averaged an 11th-place finish.
The sophomore carded an even-par 216 to finish fifth against a strong field at the Windy City Collegiate that included top-ranked Purdue. The even-par 216 was Huffer’s best three-round total with the Irish. Additionally, her 70 in the second round marked her lowest single collegiate round score (two-under par).
At the Mary Fossum Invitational, Huffer finished tied for 14th, carding a seven-over par 223 in a 10th-place finish for Notre Dame. Huffer also tied for 14th again at the Bettie Lou Evans Invite while posting a six-over par 149 at the rain shortened event. Her score helped the team to a third-place finish.
Huffer and the Irish return to action on Friday, October 16 when they tee it up at The Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tenn. The University of Tennessee will be hosting the three-day tournament at the Fox Den Country Club.
