PULLMAN, Wash. – Notre Dame’s 200 Medley Relay squad began the second day of Washington State’s Debbie Pipher Invitational by setting a Gibb Pool record in 1:45.06 and the women’s swimming team never looked back. Colleen Fotsch, Samantha Maxwell, Kellyn Kuhlke and Amywren Miller blazed through the course in 1:45.06 to start Saturday’s competition as Irish swimmers went on to claim the gold in four individual races.
Washington State tallied 393 points with Notre Dame’s `Blue’ team earning 328 and the `Gold’ team racking up 321. Ohio (314) was fourth followed by Idaho (253) and Fresno State (188).
The pool records continued to fall as Lauren Sylvester (17:15.28) and Casey Wagner (17:15.30) finished one-two in the 1,650 Free. Lauren Parisi stroked her way to a first-place showing in the 200 Back (2:02.88) for another Gibb Pool benchmark with Amy Prestinario finishing third in 2:08.14.
Gwen Blythe was second in the 200 Breast (2:27.16) just before Miller set a meet record in the 100 Free (51.18). Delia Cronin (54.25) was fifth in the event.
Katie Casey (2:04.53) and Zeina Shanata (2:11.87) placed in the top four spots of the 200 Fly. Prestinario (2:09.75) and Megan Farrell (2:09.87) finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 IM.
Sylvester (5:02.43) shelved her second win of the day in the 500 Free with Wagner (5:07.73) tapping in two spots behind.
Notre Dame put the finishing touches on the meet with a bronze finish in the 400 Free Relay (3:34.92) behind the forces of Prestinario, Christa Riggins, Maxwell and Miller.
Pittsburgh visits Notre Dame for a Halloween (Oct. 31) dual meet beginning at 5 p.m. (ET) at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
