NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame baseball program wraps up another highly competitive fall with its annual Blue-Gold Series this weekend at Frank Eck Stadium.

The opening game is set for 4:30 p.m. (ET) Friday. Due to a forecast of rain for Saturday, a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. (ET) Sunday will wrap up the weekend. Each game is slated for seven innings.

Admission is free for all fans although donations will be accepted at the door with all funds going towards pediatric cancer research.

Grad student Scott Kerrigan and senior James Nevant will manage the blue team while seniors David Hearne and Michael Hearne will head up the gold squad.

Under sixth-year head coach Mik Aoki the Irish return the entire starting infield, a starting outfielder and 549.0 of 554.2 innings pitched (in 2015) in 2016 from a team that finished tied for third in the Atlantic Coast Conference during the regular season, went 1-2 at the ACC Tournament and qualified for its first NCAA Regional since 2006.

The Irish are celebrating Halloween a bit early Friday night and invite fans to participate with them. Costumes are encouraged as the players and coaches have set up a special evening for children following the scrimmage around 7:15 p.m. (ET).

Guests will find themselves wandering through a haunted baseball graveyard filled with greats who never made it to the Hall of Fame and your very own Irish baseball old timers. A haunted stadium wouldn’t be complete without encountering a clan full of zombies … just be careful not to stir or upset them otherwise you may find yourself in the middle of a brawl. We warn fans to be on the lookout in the haunted barnyard … one wrong turn and you will be the next ghost farmer that cannot find their way out of the cornfield. At this point in the journey, guests are invited to enter the asylum where no one leaves, especially if you get too close to one of our patients.

If you are one of the lucky few to make it out of the asylum, you’re rewarded with participating in the skills stations on the field where kids can collect candy and prizes! Notre Dame baseball looks forward to haunting with you Friday night!
