Blue Takes Down Gold, 17-7

NOTRE DAME, Indiana – Sophomore running back Dexter Williams and junior quarterback Montgomery VanGorder each rushed for a touchdown to lead the Blue to a 17-7 victory over the Gold Saturday afternoon in the 2016 Blue-Gold Game.

Williams rushed it 13 times for 43 yards, including a 16-yard run that gave the Blue a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter. VanGorder, who also completed five of seven passes for 50 yards, put the game away with a two-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter. His scoring run capped a 69-yard scoring drive.

Junior quarterback DeShone Kizer completed 10 of 17 passes for 113 yards, while senior quarterback Malik Zaire connected on six of 15 passes for 120 yards, including a spectacular 50-yard pass play with fellow senior Torii Hunter Jr. Zaire also aded a 13-yard TD run in the second quarter.

Hunter Jr. finished the game with three catches for 79 yards. Sophomore Equanimeous St. Brown hauled in a game-high five passes for 53 yards, while freshman Kevin Stepherson had four grabs for 70 yards.

Sophomore Brandon Wimbush completed seven of 11 passes for 52 yards.

Graduate safety Avery Sebastian, senior cornerback Cole Luke and senior safety Max Redfield each registered six tackles for the Gold. Sophomore Nick Coleman had a couple tackles and three pass breakups for the Blue.
