SAN DIEGO – Alexa Maldonado cranked a solo home run in the fourth inning of Notre Dame’s 3-1 non-conference softball loss Sunday to Boise State. The setback on the final day of the Campbell/Cartier Classic at the San Diego State Softball Complex dropped Notre Dame’s overall record to 1-4.
Aubray Zell (5-1) took a no-hitter into the fourth which came to an end on Maldonado’s solo home run to left to cut the Broncos’ lead in half, 2-1.
Maldonado had two of Notre Dame’s five hits with Dani Miller, Kelsey Thornton and Kasey O’Connor each adding singles.
Boise State (7-3) had 10 hits and left 10 runners on base.
Christin Capobianco went 3-for-3 with one RBI and scored one run. The first four batters in the Boise State lineup accounted for seven hits.
Aubray struck out five in the complete-game win as both Laura Winter (0-3) and Jackie Bowe fanned three Broncos. Winter shouldered the loss as the starter lasted 3.0 frames and gave up two earned runs.
Allie Crump’s two-RBI double in the bottom of the third proved to be the difference in the contest.
