NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Senior Jillian Byers became Notre Dame’s all-time points leader, scoring five goals and leading the No. 12 Irish to a 17-8 victory over No. 16 Stanford.
Byers broke the all-time points record with her fifth goal with 3:45 left in the match.
Gina Sciosia totaled four goals and an assist for the Irish, while Shaylyn Blaney added three goals. Maggie Tamasitis added two assists and a goal, while Ansley Stewart notched one goal and one assist. Jackie Doherty, Beth Koloup and Kailene Abt each added one goal.
Julie Christy led the Cardinal with two goals. Karen Nesbitt, Claire Hubbard and Lauren Schmidt each added one goal and one assist. Sarah Flynn, Jamie Nesbitt, and Amanda Schwab had one goal each for Stanford.
Abt put the Irish up 1-0 just 34 seconds into the first period. Schmidt answered for Stanford with 27:41 left to tie it at 1-1. The Irish and the Cardinal traded goals until Byers scored four straight to put Notre Dame up 6-2 with 5:52 left. Scioscia added two of her own before Stanford scored again. Doherty scored with 50 seconds left to give the Irish a 9-3 lead into the break.
Stanford opened the second period with their fourth goal just 23 seconds in. Blaney answered for the Irish with 26:13 left to put Notre Dame up by six. Goals were traded again until the Irish scored four straight to go up 15-6 with 11:22 left. Both teams added two more goals each to end the match at 17-8.
Erin Goodman got the win for the Irish in goal, recording 13 saves in 52:55. Amy Winik notched two saves in 7:05 for Notre Dame. Annie Read totaled eight saves in 60:00 for Stanford.
The Irish will travel to Dartmouth on Saturday, March 7.
