CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Notre Dame juniors Madelyn Christman and Chris Guiliano have swept this week’s ACC Swimmer of the Week honors, the conference announced on Tuesday. It is Christman’s first time earning the award, while Guiliano earned it twice this season already (Oct. 23 and Nov. 21).
Christman — who hails from outside of Indianapolis — earned wins in the 100 and 200 back this weekend, as the women’s team topped Navy but narrowly fell to Princeton. She earned an NCAA B cut in the 200 with a time of 1:54.07, the fastest performance of her career. It is also the 20th-fastest 200 back in the NCAA this year and the fourth-fastest in the ACC. Christman also notched a time of 52.78 in the 100 back, which ranks 49th in the country this season.
Finally, the junior led off a 400 free relay with a B cut and a time of 49.35. It was her first time breaking the 50-second mark.
In wins over Princeton and Navy, Guiliano won both the 50 and 100 free with times of 19.55 and 41.84. He went 1:33.62 in the 200 free, earning a second-place finish. Each of those times was slightly off of the Pennsylvania native’s bests, but Guiliano certainly remains one of the nation’s top swimmers. Overall in the NCAA this year, his season-bests rank fourth in the 50 free (18.84), third in the 100 free (41.23) and fifth in the 200 free (1:32.14). The 100 and 200 times are the fastest in the ACC.
Guiliano was also a part of two winning relays this weekend: 400 medley and 200 free.
Notre Dame is off this weekend before hosting the Tim Welsh Classic at the Rolfs Aquatics Center from Jan. 26-27.
