Clive Brewer Named Director Of Olympic Strength And Conditioning

The University of Notre Dame Sports Performance staff  has announced the hiring of Clive Brewer as the Director of Olympic Strength and Conditioning. Brewer boasts over 25 years of experience around the world with athletic organizations including the Columbus Crew, Toronto Blue Jays, Arizona Rattlers, Widnes Vikings Rugby League Club in England and has had long-standing consultant relationships with Manchester United FC, USA Football, Wimbledon tennis championships, WTA, Scotland National Rugby League, Liverpool Ladies FC, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), US Joint Services Special Operations command, Cirque du Soleil and IMG Academy. 

Brewer joins the Notre Dame staff after most recently working as the Director of Athletic Performance with OrthoArizona, where he started the program from its inception and developed a business supporting seven youth programs and over 400 individual athletes. 

“We are excited to welcome Clive Brewer to Notre Dame as our new Director of Olympic Strength & Conditioning,” John Wagle, the Pat and Jana Eilers Associate Athletics Director for Sports Performance, said. 

“Clive’s extensive knowledge and experience will be pivotal in advancing the interdisciplinary support provided by our Sports Performance team. We look forward to the impact of his leadership in helping our student-athletes excel on and off the field.”

Certified in the USA, UK and Australia as an elite strength and conditioning coach, and a chartered scientist with the UK Science council, Clive was honored by the UKSCA in 2014 with the prestigious Honorary Fellowship award. In 2024 his 25 years of service to the industry was recognized by the NSCA with the award of Emeritus Registered strength & conditioning coach. 

His latest book “Developing Athletic Movement Skills” was published by Human Kinetics in the spring of 2017. A regular keynote speaker at international conferences, Clive has published 2 other books, 12 book chapters and more than 15 papers on training methods, coaching & performance in peer-reviewed journals.
