Jim Fraleigh, (’88) joined the athletics department in 1991. As deputy athletics director, Fraleigh is responsible for the sponsorship and multi-media rights services for the Athletic Department.
During his tenure with the department, Fraleigh helped establish Notre Dame Global Partnerships, a joint venture between JMI Sports and Legends, formed to build integrated partnerships with industry leading partners that share the University’s commitment to both academic and athletic excellence, contribute to the University’s mission while also upholding its storied history and tradition, and offer brands a unique opportunity to connect with fans, students, and alumni globally.
Fraleigh`s leadership efforts, have included: twice leading the negotiation of the athletics department’s apparel contract with Under Armour in 2014 and 2023; acquiring and retaining strategic business partnerships for the athletics department, including partnerships with Coca-Cola, Guinness, Credit Union 1, Citi, Allstate, Canon, and Gatorade, while overseeing all commercial revenue producing activities; helping to establish the Citi Shamrock Classic, a nationally presented women’s basketball game (broadcast on NBC) that serves to elevate, educate, and spotlight women in leadership. Similar to the Shamrock Series, the Citi Shamrock Classic takes place in different locations throughout the country and features a women’s leadership programming alongside community engagement activities.
Additionally, Fraleigh has been a key figure involved in the planning of various athletic department interests within the Campus Crossroads Project, a $400 million construction project built around Notre Dame Stadium. The project included more than 750,000 square feet of classroom, research, student facility, digital media performance, and meeting space as well as hospitality and club space, premium seating, new concession areas and press box. This endeavor also featured the introduction of the marketing and sales of Notre Dame Stadium’s premium seating and club areas in conjunction with the renovation of Notre Dame Stadium.
Fraleigh is a contributing member of the athletics department leadership team and University’s licensing, concessions advisory, and corporate governance committees. He represents Notre Dame on the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf Committee and previously served on the ACC’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Officiating Committee as well as the executive committee of the Sports Management Institute.
For the past sixteen years, Fraleigh has served as the sport administrator for the Notre Dame men’s basketball program. During the 2014-15 season the program saw extraordinary success by winning the ACC championship and making a run to back-to-back Elite Eights of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship (2015, 2016). Fraleigh was instrumental in the recent hire of current men’s basketball coach, Micah Shrewsberry. In addition, Fraleigh serves as the sport administrator for the men’s and women’s golf teams.
Prior to being promoted to deputy athletics director, Fraleigh served as the associate athletics director from 2009-2013. During his career at Notre Dame, Fraleigh has had a steady ascent up the ranks, serving as manager of sports marketing, director of ticketing and marketing, assistant athletics director for ticketing and marketing, assistant athletics director for community relations and ticket operations and executive director of the Notre Dame Monogram Club, Notre Dame’s varsity letter-winner organization and associate athletics director for corporate relations. He also previously served as the sport administrator for the baseball program.
Fraleigh and his wife, Jody, live in Mishawaka, Indiana, and have three sons: Brendan (Notre Dame ’17 and ‘22), Casey (Notre Dame ’19), and Riley (Notre Dame ’22).
