Ryan Munger 2024-25 Baseball Staff
Assistant Coach
Ryan Munger joined the University of Notre Dame coaching staff in 2022. He joined the Irish from Davidson College as a volunteer coach in 2022. Munger was promoted to assistant coach in 2023 and was elevated to recruiting coordinator in the fall of 2024. Munger served as an assistant coach for seven seasons with Davidson, and was elevated to recruiting coordinator in July of 2018.
After joining Davidson in the fall of 2013, Munger worked primarily with the catchers and assisted with hitting. In 2022, he helped guide the Wildcats to a 43-13 overall mark, a 20-4 Atlantic 10 Conference record as Davidson earned the 2022 Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship, finishing a game ahead of Stiffler’s VCU team.
In his time with Davidson, Munger helped lead the program to new heights, winning the most games in a season in program history in 2017, 2018 and further improving that total during the 2022 season. He led the Wildcats to their first-ever conference title in the program’s 115-year history in 2017, and was just the second four-seed to ever sweep an NCAA Regional.
Munger helped recruit, tutor and/or develop a host of Davidson standouts, including:
- Michael Carico: 2022 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, 2023 5th-round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs, 2023 Rawling Golden Glove Winner, 2023 Golden Spikes Watch List
- Nolan DeVos: 2022 Golden Spikes Watch List
- Ryan Wilson: 2023 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year
- Eric Jones: 2018 Johnny Bench Award Watch List
- Jake Sidwell: 2017 Johnny Bench Award Finalist, 2017 Rawlings Gold Glove Finalist
Golden Spikes Watch List honorees Nolan DeVos and Michael Carico (the first such honorees in Davidson history), back-to-back Atlantic 10 Players of the Year in Carico (2022) and Ryan Wilson (won after Munger’s departure, in 2023), and Eric Jones and Jake Sidwell, who became Johnny Bench Award Watch List honorees. Sidwell was a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award as well as a Rawlings Gold Glove finalist, both of which were the first of their kind for the Wildcats, and Carico, in addition to his aforementioned honors.
Munger played baseball at Duke and was a team captain in 2012 and 2013. He and his wife, Chelsea, have a daughter, Blake.
