Tristan Musser 2025-26 Hockey Staff
Assistant Coach
Catalino Family Head Hockey Coach Brock Sheahan announced the final addition to his inaugural staff, Tristan Musser, to serve as Assistant Coach beginning November 1, 2025. His primary responsibilities will include personalized player development of current student-athletes and emphasized recruiting efforts of prospective student-athletes. Musser joins the University of Notre Dame hockey program following five seasons in the National Hockey League as a scout for the Buffalo Sabres.
Sheahan and Musser previously worked alongside each other in the Chicago Steel organization where Musser served as the Director of Player Development, Skills Coach and Director of Player Personnel. During their time together with the Steel, the pair – along with current Irish Associate Head Coach Mike Garman – led the team to the Anderson Cup, awarded to the USHL’s regular season champions.
During his time with the Steel, Musser helped develop countless young talent, including that of current NHLers Jackson LaCombe (ANA), Owen Power (BUF), Sam Colangelo (ANA), Mackie Samoskevich (FLA), Josh Doan (BUF), Brendan Brisson (NYR), and Matt Coronato (CGY), among others.
Following his stint with the Steel, Musser became one of the top regional scouts in the NHL with a knack for spotting talent at all levels of hockey. He has also spent time at Canisius College (NCAA), Sioux City Musketeers (USHL), Buffalo Jr. Sabres (OJHL), the USNTDP (USHL), and was head coach of the Buffalo Jr. Sabres 16U team in 2017-18.
A native of Lansing, Michigan, Musser earned his bachelor’s degree in 2014 from Adrian College where he spent four years as a member of their ACHA team.
