Notre Dame, Ind. – Dave Campbell, a standout goalkeeper at Middlebury (Vt.) College from 1997-2000, has been named an assistant coach on the University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse staff. He replaces Matt Rienzo who left for a simlar position at Georgetown University. Campbell will work primarily with the Irish goalkeepers.
Campbell comes to Notre Dame after serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater during the 2001 campaign in which the Panthers finished with a 17-1 record and won its second consecutive NCAA Division III national title. A three-year starter at Middlebury, Campbell was a member of the school’s first-ever men’s lacrosse national championship team in 2000. During his final season, he posted a .579 save percentage and a career-best 7.12 goals against average. As a senior, he guided the Panthers to a 15-1 mark and a 58-8 record during his career. A four-year letterwinner, Campbell helped Middlebury advance to the NCAA tournament three times.
A United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) third-team Division III All-America selection and first-team all-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and all-New England selection as a senior, Campbell played in 54 games during his career andand finished with 479 career saves, a .581 save percentage and 7.83 goals against average. Following his final collegiate season, he played in the North/South All-Star game.
As a junior, Campbell earned second-team All-America accolades in leading the Panthers to a runnerup finish at the NCAA Divison III national championships and also garnered first-team all-NESCAC and honorable mention all-New England accolades.
He finished his career third on the school’s all-time saves list and ranked second with a 7.83 goals against average.

“Dave is a proven and successful winner at a school which has had an outstanding track record over the past three years. His experience will be extremely beneficial to our goalkeepers this season. I am anxious to have him on the field working with them.”
Born July 5, 1978, the Norwalk, Conn. native, received is bachelor’s degree in economics from Middlebury in May of 2000.
