NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Former Notre Dame All-American David Earl recently was selected by the Minnesota Swarm in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) 2011 Entry Draft. Earl was taken in the third round with the 27th overall selection.
Earl is coming off a successful rookie season in Major League Lacrosse (MLL). He and his Hamilton National squad fell to the Boston Cannons, 10-9, in the 2011 MLL title game in August. Earl scored two goals in Hamilton’s 11-9 semifinal win over Denver.
Earl tallied 17 goals and four assists in 10 games during the 2011 MLL campaign. He also picked up 13 ground balls. The Nationals picked Earl in the third round (13th overall selection) of January’s MLL Draft.
The Simsbury, Conn. native garnered All-America honors with the Fighting Irish in 2010 and 2011. As a senior, Earl compiled a team-high tying 25 points on 15 goals and a team-best 10 assists along with 30 ground balls en route to being named the 2011 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year.
“David was an All-America midfielder and a big part of a Notre Dame program that has had great success in the last couple of years,” said Swarm Assistant General Manager Joe Sullivan. “He’s a guy who is really going to push to make the team.”
The owner and president of the Minnesota Swarm is John Arlotta, who made the lead donation for Arlotta Stadium, which is the home to the Notre Dame men’s and women’s lacrosse programs. The multi-million dollar facility opened in October 2009.
Kevin Crowley (Stony Brook) went first overall in the 2011 NLL Draft to the Philadelphia Wings. The NLL is comprised of nine teams and the draft featured six rounds and 53 total picks. The indoor league’s regular season stretches from January through April.
