PHILADELPHIA — Former University of Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 20th pick in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft Friday evening in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art at Eakins Oval.
Kizer is the highest drafted Irish quarterback since the Carolina Panthers chose Jimmy Clausen with the 48th pick of the 2010 draft. Kizer becomes the 16th Notre Dame player drafted by the Cleveland Browns and first since Brady Quinn in the first round round of the 2007 draft.
The 6-4.5, 230-pounder left Notre Dame ranked in the top-10 in school history in 19 different career offensive categories.
Kizer, who was voted the 2016 Monogram Club Most Valuable Player by his teammates, completed 212 of 361 passes for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2016. He also rushed for 472 yards and eight touchdowns. Kizer ranked in the top 25 nationally in five different categories including TD passes (18th, 26), passing yards per completion (24, 13.80), points responsible for (17th, 204), points responsible for per game (18th, 17.0) and total offense (26th, 283.1 per game).
