Notre Dame, Ind. – DJ Driscoll, a defenseman from Downingtown, Pa., has signed a national letter of intent to play men’s lacrosse for the University of Notre Dame. He becomes the eighth prep standout to sign with the Irish program which will comprise the first class in the 22-year history of the program to receive grant-in-aids beginning in the fall of 2002. Driscoll will join Brian Hubschmann (Short Hills, N.J.), Matt Karweck (Penn Yan, N.Y.), Steve Panos (Arnold, M.d.), Drew Peters (Babylon, N.Y.), Matt Ryan (Ridley, Pa.), Brandon Schultheis (Babylon, N.Y.) and Pat Walsh (Wantagh, N.Y.) as members of Notre Dame’s class of 2006.
The 6-4, 195-pound product of Malvern Prep was a two-sport standout in both lacrosse and football. An all-Inter AC selection in both his sophomore and junior seasons, he has led his prep team to an 8-1 record thus far in 2002 and a ranking of 18th in the national poll. He has collected 60 ground balls and has scored three goals.
Driscoll served as captain of the football team in 2001 and guided his squad to an undefeated season and a final ranking of second in the state poll. He led the state of Pennsylvania in interceptions and was the recipient of the prestigious Maxwell Award. Driscoll shared player-of-year honors from the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News with Maurice Stovall, one of the top high school football players in the country who signed a national letter of intent in February to attend and play football at Notre Dame.
A member of the National Honor Society, he has maintained a grade point average of 3.8 his four years at Malvern Prep.
“DJ is a tremendous athlete who we expect will develop into a great college defenseman,” Irish head coach Kevin Corrigan says. “He is the last piece of the puzzle for a tremendous recruiting class for us.”
