SOUTH BEND, Ind. – After a breakout week which saw the Irish defeat two ranked foes on the road, Notre Dame women’s lacrosse’s MK Doherty was tabbed the Division I Player of the Week by USA Lacrosse.
Doherty recorded both game-winners over the two-game stretch, scoring the final dagger in the final minute of regulation both times to help her team to the spring break sweep.
She opened the weekend with a season-best six points at Brown, scoring three goals and adding three assists to her count as the Irish beat the Bears 16-15. Her hat trick goal came in a deadlocked 14-14 game with just 36 seconds left in regulation to give the Irish the win. She also recorded eight draw controls in the contest to give her team the edge.
The Summit, New Jersey native then followed up that performance with a season-best four goals at then-No. 2 Boston College. Doherty’s second game-winner in as many games came with just 15 seconds to play in the fourth quarter to break the tie game and set the Irish up for the win. The senior midfielder sealed the victory for the Irish when she won the final draw control, holding possession and running out the clock as the Irish defeated the Eagles 15-14 Saturday afternoon.
Doherty finished the weekend with seven goals and three assists for 10 points while adding 14 draw controls to her already impressive outings. She also contributed defensively with a pair of ground ball recoveries over the stretch.
This is Doherty’s first recognition of the season by USA Lacrosse and the team’s second. Keelin Schlageter was previously recognized by the organization in mid-February.
