Dominant Sunday as Irish Close Home Event: Thompson & Corsillo Each 4-0 in Singles

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s tennis team wrapped up the Fighting Irish Mini Duals with a solid final day as the Irish compiled a 6-2 record on the court.

Chase Thompson and Kyran Magimay each picked up another win in their matches against Wisconsin, both in straight sets to start the day for the Notre Dame squad. Peter Nad was next up and found himself down a set and a break, facing 3 match points, also against his Wisconsin opponent. But the freshman from Slovakia found a way all the way back to claim his second consecutive 3-set victory 3-6, 7-6(5), 1-0(7).

The next pair of wins came from Yu Zhang and Jamie Corsillo who each defeated their DePaul opponents, both claiming straight set victories. Jayanth Devaiah also clinched a 6-3, 6-3 win over Western Michigan.

Overall, Notre Dame picked up 22 singles and 6 doubles wins. The Irish were particularly tough in three set matches as they went 9-3 in those tightly contested matches. Thompson and Corsillo led the way in singles by each going 4-0, Corsillo doing so without dropping a set all weekend. Magimay and Zhang both went 3-1 as well while Bilsey, Devaiah, Nad and Llorens each picked up a pair of wins.

The last tournament of the fall campaign will be the ITA Conference Masters in Rome, GA from November 7th-10th. Sebastian Dominko was selected to participate in the singles draw and he and Peter Nad were selected to participate in doubles as representatives of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Selections were made by all of the ACC coaches who collectively voted for who would represent the conference in the event.
