Dominko Named ACC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the third time in his career, Sebastian Dominko was named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon. Dominko beat the 6th and 26th ranked players in the country from Wake Forest and NC State, respectively, in singles and the 40th ranked doubles team from Wake Forest this past weekend. He did not get broken in singles in either match.

It’s the sixth total weekly conference accolade for Dominko (Three Player of the Week and Three Doubles Teams of the Week).

The junior from Maribor, Slovenia, is 16-2 in singles this spring, all from No. 1 singles, and has won nine matches in a row, only losing one set during that span. He is 7-0 this season against ACC opponents after his 7-6(6), 6-2 win over No. 6 DK Suresh Ekambaram of #1 Wake Forest on Friday and 6-4, 7-6 (0) victory over No. 26 Braden Shick of # 5 NC State on Sunday.

In 10 nationally ranked singles matches this year, Dominko is 7-2, with one match unfinished. He is 24-6 in singles play including the fall season, where he qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships.

Dominko is 16-3 in doubles this season, winning in four of his last five matches. He teamed up with Chase Thompson at No. 1 doubles on Friday to take down the 40th-ranked Robertson/Suresh Ekambaram from #1 Wake Forest, 6-3.

This is the second conference accolade for the Irish this season after Peter Nad was named ACC Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week back on January 14.

Dominko and Notre Dame Men’s Tennis are back on the home courts this weekend for three more matches when they host No. 5 Virginia on Friday at 5 p.m. and No. 73 Virginia Tech and Southern Indiana Sunday at noon and 4 p.m. at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Admission to all Notre Dame tennis matches is free.
