Eight Irish Finish Season At Ohio State Winter Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Eight Notre Dame swimmers — five women and three men — wrapped up their 2025-26 season this weekend at the Ohio State Winter Invite. The Irish posted six best times in total, as well as several season bests.

Senior Gretchen Lueking, who has been a Swiss Army Knife for Notre Dame during her four seasons in South Bend, went a best time of 54.87 in the 100 back, winning the event. She also took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.38.

Sophomore Sailor Whowell posted two lifetime bests in Columbus, going 55.38 in the 100 back and 50.41 in the 100 free. She won the latter event.

Freshman Owen Tharrington had the best meet on the men’s side in terms of best times, posting three — 100 back (48.87), 200 back (1:44.70) and 100 fly (49.38). He won the 200 back after dropping 2.07 seconds from his previous best performance.

The rest of the Notre Dame swimming and diving student-athletes will be in Atlanta this week for the 2026 ACC Championships. The meet begins Sunday, Feb. 15 with two full days of diving before the swimming begins on Tuesday.
