Notre Dame, Ind. – A veteran of nine years working in the administrative end in both college and professional football, Erica Weiland Genise has joined the Notre Dame football staff as the director of football operations.

Genise will coordinate day-to-day operations of the football program, serving as a liaison with various campus units, as well as a variety of athletic department support service areas. She will coordinate team and staff travel for the Irish, oversee budgetary matters related to football and handle a variety of other assignments in conjunction with that sport.

Born in Elgin, Ill., Genise comes to Notre Dame after serving as the temporary executive assistant to the president of the San Francisco 49ers since February ’02.

Before working with the 49ers, Genise was the administrative associate to head coach Tyrone Willingham at Stanford. Included in her job responsibilities were providing administrative assistance to Willingham, while serving as office manager. She supervised the other secretaries in the office and was the liaison between Willingham and the public. She also coordinated team travel for one year while at Stanford and was a member of the planning committee for Stanford’s appearance at both the 2000 Rose Bowl and 2001 Seattle Bowl.

Prior to her stint at Stanford, Genise was the coaching and pro personnel assistant with the Minnesota Vikings from 1994-97. She also worked as a public relations intern and as an administrative assistant to the coaching staff while with the Vikings.

A ’93 graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in journalism, Genise worked for both the Daily Iowan, the student newspaper, and the Iowa athletic department in many different capacities.

Born Dec. 6, 1969, Genise is married to John Genise.
