Notre Dame, Ind. – Senior Erich Braun (Frankfurt, Germany) and junior Justin Detter (White Lake, Mich.) have been named to the adidas/NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Great Lakes all-regional teams. Braun, who led the team in scoring for the third time in four seasons, was selected to the first team, while Detter claimed third team honors.
Both players led Notre Dame to a 12-6-3 record in 2002 as Notre Dame advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament by winning a first round contest for just the second time in school history.
Braun, the first two-time first-team all-BIG EAST selection in the history of the Notre Dame men’s soccer program, led his team in scoring with 11 goals and one assist (23 points). The Irish forward concluded his four-year career with 36 goals and 13 assists for 85 points. Braun finished sixth on the Irish’s all-time career goal-scoring list and ninth in career points scored while starting 71 of 73 games.
He registered two multiple-goal games this season and finished with seven during his career. Braun was selected MVP and was name to the all-tournament team at the Diadora Challenge in Omaha, Neb.
In addition to earning third-team all-regional honors, Detter copped second-team all-BIG EAST accolades for the second straight (he was a first-team selection in 2001). The Irish midfielder was in the starting for all 21 Notre Dame games and was third on the scoring list with 19 points (six goals and seven assists). He has started 56 games during his career and scored 14 goals and dished off 13 assists (41 points) in 57 career game played.
