NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Maryann Erigha set one Notre Dame record while winning two events Sunday afternoon at the Mt. San Antonio College (SAC) Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, California. Erigha’s performances highlighted a productive weekend for the Notre Dame track and field team as competitors competed at two meets – Mt. SAC and the Indy Relays.

Erigha won both the women’s 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash while setting a new school record in the 100, which she won in 11.28, breaking the old mark of 11.48 by Domenique Calloway in 1997. Her victory in the women’s 200 in 23.28 was just .03 off the Notre Dame record of 23.25, also set by Calloway in 1997. Both performances qualified her for the upcoming BIG EAST Championships and NCAA Mid-East Regional meet, in addition to ranking among the top 10 among collegiate sprinters this season.

Overall, Irish athletes won 14 events in the two competitions as Notre Dame athletes accumulated 12 event victories at the Indy Relays at Butler University in Indianapolis. Notre Dame garnered 11 performances that exceeded qualifying standards for the NCAA Mid-East Regional meet (eight women, three men) and had a total of 41 qualifying marks for the upcoming BIG EAST Outdoor Championships (19 women and 22 men).

Eleven Notre Dame track athletes’ performances met or exceeded qualifying standards for the NCAA Mid-East Regional meet. In addition to Erigha’s victories in the women’s sprints, Selim Nurudeen ran a 2005 seasonal best of 13.90 in the men’s 110-meter high hurdles while placing sixth against a world class field of hurdlers in the Invitational version of the high hurdles. Indy Relays

Irish athletes won 12 events (six by the women’s team, six by the men’s team) and accumulated a host of BIG EAST Championships qualifying marks at the Indy Relays held at Butler University in Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday.

Women’s winners: Jennifer Leong in the 400 (59.31), Jackie Carter in the 800 (2:14.15), Domenique Manning in the 100-meter hurdles (14.60), Julie Opet in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:31.68), Dee Dee Bryant in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.35 meters (10 feet, 11 ¾ inches), and Cassie Gullickson in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 11.64 meters (38-2 ¼).

Men’s winners: Roberto Garcia in the 400-meter hurdles (54.68), A.J. Andrassey in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:26.09), Chris Staron in the high jump with a clearance of 2.01m (6-7), Chris Jacques in the long jump with a leap of 7.17m (23-6 ¼), Mike Schubert in the shot put with a toss of 14.92m (48-11 ½), and Chip Roberts in the men’s hammer throw with an effort of 54.13m (177-7).
